Kemback Business vs Xero
Xero is full online accounting with unlimited users on every plan and a large app marketplace. Kemback Business keeps your business books, your rental homes and your personal money on one login, exact to the cent, at one household price per add-on.
The short answer
Choose Xero if you want unlimited users, payroll through Gusto, online invoice payments, multi-currency and projects, and a marketplace of connected apps.
Choose Kemback Business if your business is one part of a household that also has personal accounts and perhaps a few rental homes, and you’d rather keep all of that in one place, exact to the cent. Small Business keeps the books for every company the household runs for one household price, with no invoice or bill limits, and Rental Houses looks after your homes.

Who Xero suits
Xero’s three US plans step up by volume and depth. Early limits you to 20 invoices and 5 bills and offers auto-reconcile as an add-on; Growing removes those limits and adds automated bill entry; Established adds multi-currency, projects, expense and mileage claims, and longer cash flow forecasts. Every plan includes unlimited users, which suits a business with a partner, a bookkeeper and an accountant all in the books.
Xero says it connects to more than a thousand certified apps, and payroll is an add-on powered by Gusto. Sales tax and W-9 and 1099 management are on every plan. Reports export to PDF, Excel or Google Sheets, and some to CSV.
Where Kemback Business is different
One login for the whole household’s money. Kemback began as personal finance software. With Kemback Business, the same login holds your personal accounts, each company you run with its own double-entry books, and your rental homes. Personal views leave business accounts out unless you ask to include them, so your household budget isn’t muddled by business spending.
Schedule C in mind. Every income and expense account maps to its Schedule C line, and the year’s Schedule C summary comes from the books, with mileage at the IRS rate on line 9 and the simplified home office on line 30. 1099-NEC tracking shows who crossed that year’s threshold and who still needs a W-9.
Rental Houses for small landlords. Homes let whole or by the room, tenants with no double booking, leases signed in Kemback with Kemback Sign, rent and deposits recorded and matched to bank deposits, security deposits held as a liability, mortgage payments split into principal, interest and escrow, a calendar with seasonal pricing and iCal sync, Schedule E per home, and a free tenant portal. Details are on rental property tracking.
Exact to the cent, and private. Money is whole cents throughout. Kemback is paid for by its plans, with no ads and no selling of data, and bank sync goes through Plaid without Kemback ever seeing your bank password. See security.
Where Xero is stronger
- Payroll and payments. Xero offers payroll (through Gusto) and online invoice payments. Kemback doesn’t run payroll or take payments.
- Integrations. A marketplace of connected apps, and many accountants may already know it. Kemback has Plaid bank sync and file import and export, and a read-only advisor role.
- Multi-currency and projects on Established. Kemback’s company books work in your household’s currency and don’t track projects or time.
- Mobile. Xero has a mobile app. Kemback’s Small Business is on the web.
Switching from Xero
A QuickBooks-compatible import is planned for later; there’s no Xero import. Move at a period boundary:
- Export your Xero reports (profit and loss, balance sheet, aged receivables and payables) and keep them.
- In Kemback, switch on Small Business, add your company and give it its bank and card accounts.
- Enter opening balances from Xero’s balance sheet, then the invoices and bills still open.
- If you track rental homes in Xero, switch on Rental Houses and add each home, and let rules tag each transaction to its home.
Bottom line
Xero is a full accounting platform with unlimited users and a wide ecosystem. Kemback Business is for owners who want their household, rentals and business together, exact to the cent and never sold. See the pricing, create a Kemback account, or read the other comparisons.

Questions
Can Kemback Business keep my business books?
Yes. Small Business keeps each company's double-entry books, with invoices, estimates, bills, reconciliation, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and a Schedule C summary. It's an add-on to Kemback, billed per household; see the pricing page.
Is there anything Kemback Business never does?
Yes. It doesn't run payroll, file tax returns, 1099s or sales tax, or process card or bank payments. Customers and tenants pay you directly, and the payment is recorded and matched to the deposit in your bank account.
Does Kemback sell my data or store my bank password?
No. Kemback is paid for by its plans, with no ads and no selling of data. Bank sync goes through Plaid, and Kemback never sees or stores your bank password.
