The short answer
Choose FreshBooks if you bill clients for your time: it is built around invoices, time tracking, project budgets and online payments, and its mobile app tracks mileage. It is a strong fit for consultants, designers and other service businesses who want to send an invoice and be paid online quickly.

Who FreshBooks suits
FreshBooks’ plans are priced partly by how many clients you bill: Lite covers 5 billable clients, Plus 50, and Premium and Select unlimited. Every plan has unlimited invoices, recurring invoices, late fees and payment reminders, expense tracking, automated bank import, unlimited time tracking and project budgets. Plus adds double-entry accounting reports, bank reconciliation, receipt scanning, proposals and e-signatures; Premium adds bills and project profitability.
Customers can pay FreshBooks invoices by card, digital wallet or bank transfer, with fees. Payroll is an add-on, team members cost extra per month, and accountants can be added free on Plus and Premium. The mobile app for iPhone and Android includes mileage tracking. FreshBooks says it connects to more than a hundred apps.
Where Kemback Business is different
Your whole financial life on one login. Kemback Business adds each of your companies, with its own double-entry books, and your rental homes to the personal Kemback you may already use. The same rules, review inbox and bank connections work across all of it, and your household budget leaves business accounts out unless you include them.
Books, not just invoices. Every company gets a chart of accounts mapped to Schedule C lines, reconciliation, bills and A/P ageing, profit and loss, balance sheet, a cash flow statement, a general ledger and a Schedule C summary, with mileage, the simplified home office and 1099-NEC tracking feeding the right lines.
Rental Houses for landlords. Homes and rooms, tenants with no double booking, leases signed in Kemback with Kemback Sign, rent and security deposits recorded and matched to your bank deposits, expenses on their Schedule E lines, mortgage payments split into principal, interest and escrow, a calendar with seasonal pricing and iCal sync, and a free tenant portal. See rental property tracking.
Exact and private. Every amount is whole cents. Kemback makes its money from its plans, with no ads and no selling of data, and never sees or stores your bank password. See security.

- Mobile. FreshBooks’ app tracks mileage on the road; Kemback’s Small Business, mileage log included, is on the web.
- Payroll as an add-on. Kemback doesn’t run payroll.
Switching from FreshBooks
Choose a clean boundary such as the start of a quarter:
- Export your FreshBooks reports (most export as CSV) and list your unpaid invoices and their balances.
- In Kemback, switch on Small Business, add your company and its bank and card accounts.
- Enter opening balances, add your customers, and enter the open invoices as they stand.
- Send new invoices from Kemback, and let the old ones be paid out where they were issued.
